Pulsating tubas, trombones, and trumpets skitter above a frenetic, fast-paced jazz rhythm section in the music of 8 Bold Souls. The bandmembers take an experimental approach to large group arrangements, adding fiery improvisations to spice up their compositions.
In all periods of jazz history there have been large ensembles performing arranged music, but 'big bands' are most often associated with the music of the 1930s and '40s. Big bands are generally made up of a rhythm section and a large horn ensemble with trumpets, trombones, and saxophones, all performing song arrangements, and one or more soloists or vocal leads.
Notable Artists: Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller
