Editor's review

Whatever else you think of the sax master, know this: The guy's got the relaxation market cornered. G's new set, his first for the increasingly legit Starbucks stable, makes a smart turn to Latin balladry. The artist's silky phrases are a natural match for the lilting beats and soft grooves.

Biography

Internationally celebrated recording artist Kenny G ? acclaimed as the biggest-selling instrumental musician of the modern era − will release Rhythm and Romance on February 5, 2008 via Starbucks Entertainment and Concord Records. The album marks Kenny's first ever CD of Latin love songs ? arriving just in time for Valentine's Day. The album will be available in traditional retail outlets as well as Starbucks company-operated locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Rhythm and Romance marks his debut release for Starbucks Entertainment and Concord Records, the same team which co-released Ray Charles' Genius Loves Company and Sergio Mendes' Timeless.

"Kenny G is one of the most successful artists of our time and his work has inspired music lovers everywhere," said Ken Lombard, president Starbucks Entertainment. "It is a great pleasure to work with Kenny G and our friends at Concord to co-release Rhythm and Romance."

"There are very few instrumentalists who have transcended their genres and become house-hold names," said Concord Music Group president & CEO, Glen Barros. "With Rhythm and Romance, Kenny G has applied his distinctive style to the already emotionally charged Latin genre and the results are sure to connect with his millions of fans."

Rhythm and Romance is a unique combination of rich Samba, Salsa and Bossa Nova love songs anchored by Kenny's intoxicating and signature saxophone melodies. From the classic ballad "Sabor a Mi" to the romantic "Besame Mucho," Kenny has created a tantalizing album unlike any other in his catalogue. On this seductive album, Kenny performs with some of the best Latin musicians including Alex Acuna of Weather Report (drums), Ramon Stagnaro (guitar), John Pena (bass), Michito Sanchez (percussion) Enrique Martinez (accordion), Nathan East (bass), Paulino Da Costa (percussion) and producer Walter Afanasieff (piano) to create a truly infectious rhythmic style. The album also features guest vocals by rising Chilean star Barbara Munoz and Spanish-speaking pop/rock sensation, Camila.

"I want to thank Concord Records and Starbucks for what has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my career," said Kenny. "To have the opportunity to play with these amazing musicians has allowed my music to grow in ways I have never expected."

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Kenny G's natural ability to create and set different moods with his music has made him one of the world's most renowned soprano saxophone players. With total global sales of more than 75 million albums, singles and videos, he has earned GRAMMY, American Music, Soul Train, World Music and NAACP Image awards as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Rhythm and Romance follows up Kenny G's 2006 collection of all-instrumental popular material I'm In The Mood For Love? The Most Romantic Melodies of All Time. Prior to that, Kenny released his fourth holiday best-seller The Greatest Holiday Classics, preceded by 2004's RIAA gold At Last? The Duets Album.
