  Summary: Listenning to these babies at the demo kios at Frys store for just a couple minutes really convinced me I don't have to look further,just exactly what I wanted for my Zen vison M,a perfect match.I've already owned a pair of Creative GigaWorks T20 which I really satisfied with its sound quality but Companion 2 sounds even better,just a little excessive bass but that won't be a problem since I can ajust the equalizer in my mp3 player to get a well balanced sound.
  Everyone at my work seemed supprised at the big life-like sound from these baby speakers when they heard the music.At $99.00 is somewhat pricey for a pair of portable speakers but worth the money.Recommend to anyone looking for quality in multimedia speakers.

  Flat sound - going with 2.1

  Summary: I was thinking/hoping that Bose would make a speaker that would make me not want a subwoofer, but it just isn't there. If you want a basic 2.0 speaker system for basic audio, this is it. If you want gaming, go with something in the 2.1 configuration, like the Companion 3.

  Great pair of 2.0s, you get what you pay for here

  Summary: I almost went for the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 based on user reviews. And man, am I glad I didn't. I noticed several user complaints about the Klipsch crackling and popping and failing after 6mos. So I decided to take some time and actually shop. After testing, the Klipsch, Bose and many others at 3 or 4 stores. The Bose stood out head and shoulders and a couple of pairs of the Klipsch were crackling in the stores. Some user reviews on Bose said that they sound better in the store b/c of their special display setup. I found that they sound as good or BETTER at home. Don't nickel and dime, you'll get what you pay for with these.

  Summary: I use these for music on my work computer. I'm a serious musician and have an audiophile system at home, so I was primarily seeking smooth, clean music reproduction, without bloated bass and shrill highs. These Bose do a great job reproducing files up to 1-bit DSD 5.6 mHz. I can easily hear the difference between a CD and hi-rez files.
  
  The analogue control on the speakers is useful, allowing me to avoid the degradation caused by DSP in the computer. All gains and resolution are set at their maxes on the computer and I use the analog volume control to adjust level. Unfortunately, I did need to use a little DSP to reduce a slight hump in the lower bass.
  
  At 100-bucks, I don't know of any competition. These are not audiophile grade, by any stretch of the imagination, but they do a very good job at their price point. Most of the competition in this price looked to "cheap" and "plastic". I know there's plastic in the Bose, but it looks good.

  Summary: Listened to set set in the store and they sounded great, but it was a Bose display, so the surroundings and music were chosen by Bose. I was skeptical, but decided the Bose name is good.
  
  I got them home listening to them now. The sound is very muffled-sounding, as if some heavy cloth or a pillow is being held over speakers that would normally sound clear. I've tried a number of different kinds of music, but same result. I'm taking them back and getting a set of M-Audio monitors that sounded great, even out in the open, on a steel shelf, and playing internet radio!

  Good speakers, but a better value can likely be found

  Pros: Nice sound overall, good portability, projects sound well

  Cons: Could have a crisper sound and more bass with a subwoofer.

  Summary: A good set of speakers, but if you don't mind a slightly larger system physically, get something for about the same price and a better sound.

  Absolutely awful

  Pros: People who don't actually know good audio (it's not their fault) will love it for the "bass"

  Cons: "Bass" is caused by severely mudding up the lower mids and saturating it to an extreme amount with some real bass tones, but that causes all the sound to be muffled and bad. Completely lacking in clarity.

  Summary: i used these for 10 minutes in an Apple store and that gave me a full evaluation on them. They sound good and bassy to the average, audio-clueless user because it has been proven that people tend to pay a lot more attention to systems saturated with bass and treble, while real good audio is evenly balanced across the audible sound spectrum. The bass is simply a result of severely mashing up lower mids and yes, throwing in some (but not much) real bass. However, since it's all coming from one driver, and it's not even real bass to begin with, it really kills all the clarity and makes everything bad. It sounds good in the Bose store, but in the Bose store they rarely use anything more than a single instrument to demo you their worst products. When they use one instrument that is out of the "bass range" (where it starts to mash the sound) you don't notice the awful bass and you don't notice that in busier songs (especially at loud volumes) all the instruments blend into one. Some notice that when they take them home, but if they're mesmerized by the bass (or have already been influenced psychologically that they are good) then they keep loving them. The point is, they're bad, ESPECIALLY for what you pay. For this much you can have a much better 2.0 system or a decent 2.1 system.
  What would improve them though? Well for $40 or $50 they'd be much more worth the money since the simulated bass will sound good to the average Joe who doesn't know audio. They could lower them by that much as well since they contain no special parts and cost around $10 per pair to make. I would actually recommend the JBL Duet speakers (they're also 2.0) over these. They have a much better overall quality, the mids are pretty good and the clarity is there. They cost $50 and really sound much better. Or, you could spend a bit more and get the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system. It is so far the best computer speaker pair I've heard.

  Summary: I disagree with the c/net review. I own Vendersteen speakers for home listening so I'm kind of an audio nut. Having tried several PC speakers, I can say that these are the best sounding speakers if you don't want a subwoofer or 5.1. Also, I like having the knob in the front. Then the phone rings, dropping the sound is quick and easy. These little speakers remind me of better quality bookshelf speakers.

  Summary: After missing out on a Best Buy sale last Boxing Day when these speakers sold for under $50 CAD, I eventually managed to get my hands on a pair for under $80.
  
  They sounded great as an in-store demo, but I was initially disappointed after they arrived at my apartment and connected my iPod. The bass was good, but I found the mids and highs to be lacking.
  
  My 12" Mac Powerbook sits by my bedside and I enjoy listening to relaxing chillout music via iTunes' streaming radio. Only after fiddling around with the iTunes equalizer were the mids and highs truly revealed. I found my laptop and the Bose speakers to be great "companions".
  
  The speakers are situated on either side of my bed (hence, the connection cord length as a pro) and give a nice stereo sound (after playing around with the balance on my Mac's sound preference).
  
  These speakers are capable of delivering good tonal range and the deep bass on my streaming chillout music can be heard - dare I say, 'felt' - even at low levels.
  
  They may not be satisfying enough for movie watchers or game players, but for my purposes, the Companion II is just what I needed.

  Summary: I was amazed by how much sound these little guys put out. But then i realized i paid $100.00 for them so i should be very amazed. Some people say the bass is excellent but for $100.00 i expected more on he low end. When there is to many lows you can hear static. However, the highs are excellent. So in this case the brand name is what is bringing so much attraction to this system. Bose could of done better.....but overall it is an alright product.
