  Above average quality mid price set, great for small or medium sized spaces

  Summary: Purchased these speakers to replace an old set of Boston Acoustics. The price point on these made them more attractive on my budget than logitech's more powerful 2300's.
  
  No complaints about everday perfomance, the sound produced by these is cisp and more than adequate for my apartment, however the top end of the volume range is a little weak.
  
  The bass is solid, and with a little tweaking won't overpower the high and mid from the satlellites
  
  The wired remote included looks and feels more substantial than other offerings at this price. The action is smooth, and the thing has weight, more like a real A/V component than the cheap plastic toggles that a lot of other systems had.
  
  Overall, I think I can recommend these to anybody with a smaller apartment or dorm room, or anyone who wants above avgerge quality sound without going into the $150-$200 dollar range.

  Excellent 2.1 set

  Have listened to the Z-2300, but I wasn't impressed with the midtones and that set is a bit overkill for a small room. For the same reason I didn't go for the Z-5500. I tried really hard to find myself a good excuse to get this set but that would have meant lots of problems with neighbours and in a small room it's massive overkill I think. Specially since I can't think of places to leave the additional speakers.
  
  
  I use them primarily for gaming, since I got fed up of using headphones all the time, and they're holding up nicely.
  
  Also for music they're quite nice. The bass is for me more then sufficient,excellent clarity, good midtones and hardly any distortion at very high volume levels.
  
  So far I haven't found any cons yet. Can recommend this set to everybody who's looking for a nice 2.1 set.

  Solid performance with CRISP sound

  Summary: I bought these to replace my JBL Creature II speakers which were rated high by everybody and their dog but I felt were too 'tinney'.
  
  I was able to snag these Z4's at Circuit City for $99.00 before a $50.00 rebate.
  
  I don't consider myself an audiophile but I know good sound when I hear it and these speakers have really good sound. Over the course of the last several months, I have listened to just about everything and these speakers sound much better than some of the other systems out there including the Z-2300's.
  
  The bass performs very well and I keep it at about the 10 o'clock position since it can thump more than what you want. For the left & right speakers, you can crank up the volume with no distortion.
  
  The big thing for my is that speakers do everything very well without being over the top. Speakers should deliver "depth & dimension" to music and effects and these speakers do just that.
  
  For a test I used the DVD "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" and went right to Joan Osbourne belting out HEAT WAVE, which I believe is the acid test on speakers. The sound was right on the money with the highs sounding full and the mids rich. By the way, if you have a home theater system I would highly recommend this DVD (Bose uses it as a company demo on their speakers)
  
  If you take nothing else away from this review you can count on the speakers delivering a very *TIGHT* CRISP sound - better than speakers costing hundreds more.

I think that some of the other problems that people have described could be to do with the system running the speakers, but then i'm no expert. I am so much more than pleased with them, that any review below 7 i completely ignored. I live in the UK. I payed ₤39.99 which I was also more than happy with.

  Summary: I'm more the audiophile kind of user, although I wasn't looking for a set of audiophile speakers. I use a 5.1 B&W Series 600 speaker system when listening to music for "listening to music" as opposed to "just background music".
  
  My aim was to get a good speaker system to connect my computer so I'd have a decent listening experience when working on the computer, instead of constantly being irritated by the "bad sound and lack of bass" of my almost 18 year old SONY mini HiFi my PC was connected to...
  
  The Z4 do exactly that, with just a bit of twisting around the soundcard's "Bass boost" control as well as the subwoofer level knob on the Z4's remote, they sound really good, whether I listen to jazz or classical (very clear, impressing for the price), rock, pop or even techno. They could use a bit more rumble, but I was expecting this, as I'm more used to a B&W ASW675 subwoofer going down to 17Hz, but it's definately not fair to try to compare the Z4's to an almost 40x pricier set, is it ?
  
  I might have tried the Z-2300's but I didn't want to put more into the speakers of my PC and the line-in jack on the remote comes quite handy and the Z-2300's don't have that.
  
  I'd really recommend them, I don't regret my choice at all !
  
  If you want more than this, I'd probably tell you to rather go for the Z-2300's, they sure must be good as they're definately better than the already excellent Z4's.

  Summary: This is my first 2.1 speaker set, and I have to say it's really nice. Good bass and treble. Really like to wired remote. The auxiliary input and headphone jacks on the remote is a nice plus. The set was really easy to setup; I was up and running in about 5 minutes after unpacking the speakers from the box. I haven't needed to call support, so I can't comment on that. I like the fact that you can adjust the bass on the remote. Overall, a great product. A+

  Summary: I'm not as hardcore as some audiophiles, but I like to think I know what sounds good. And these speakers, if they do nothing else, produce nice, balanced, clear sound, with less muddiness, more distinction, warmth, faith, and soul than the other speakers I listened to that were sitting right next to them (at multiple stores, at multiple times over the span of a couple of weeks, with different music playing through them each time). These just plain sounded better than most everything else, even a couple of sets costing 50 dollars more. I just got through listening to Mauro Picotto (Hard Trance), Sasha (Ethereal Trance, or Anthem I suppose you could call it), Hoobastank, Audioslave, Mushroomhead (Dark, bass-Heavy Metal), and right now I'm listening to Charles Mingus (Jazz), and every song has been marvelously reproduced. I can hear the slight differences in timbre between the trombones in a duet, even when the rest of the band comes in, every instrument can be distinguished. And that's a 128-bit MP3.
  
  The main problem with these speakers in my experience has been the ineptness of certain computer soundcards.The compaq laptop I originally hooked these up to was almost incapable even of driving its own puny speakers -- obviating the crappy distortion it produced through these speakers, and the imac they have been hooked up to for a while has a tendency to distort at odd frequencies. I just plugged these things into my minidisc player, and they sound wonderful. Point here: Make sure your sound card is up to snuff. Older computers with standard sound cards (especially laptops) are probably not going to cut it. Al Powerbooks would probably be alright (my friend has had hers for a long time, and they drive a pair of 80-watt compaq speakers quite well, although it's possible the compaq's just have a better amp themselves). No experience with ibook audio presently. New Windows laptop on its way. would guess it will do alright for a while. But if a minidisc player can drive these well, then I'd imagine most brand new sound cards can do the job. Driven at the right power, these things are awesome. At the very least, an outstanding deal. Just my 2 cents. Actually, more like 8 cents. Oh well. Hope this helps

  Summary: I read many reviews before deciding on Z-4.Overall I am very happy with Z-4 with my decision. Certainly do not understand why some people gave 7 or even 4 in the user review?! I would like to remind that the bass should be placed under the table, better at a corner but still give some good space before any object. This gives enough sound space to let low tones to fly around. The bass does not pound sounds at speicific direction, so there is no need to direct bass toward where you sit. I am most impressed by the excelent harmony between high -mid- and low- tones. Tried with Mozart music and it performs very well as a 2.1 speakers. It is amazing for such two small speakers, they can generate great quality and high volume without distortion. Nevertheless, you would need to learn by doing how to adjust the total volume and bass knob to a suitable level in order to get the best out of it and tailor to your listening preference. For the two speakers, the best is to direct the units toward you. You also need to adjust the right-and-left balance from the voice control at the desktop of your PC in order to get the perfect balance, in case you do not place the two speakers at exactly the same distance to where you normally sit. Have listened to many MP3, watched several movies (actions and wars), and played games. With all of them I adjusted total & bass volumes in the beginning in order to get the best results, and overall Z-4 did not let me down!!! Believe me, I used to assemble speakers by myslef before and I know the Z-4 is certainly worthy of the money! I bought Z-4i which normally desgined for iPod. But it fits well with my PC. I love the nice white design, and the colors go well with my Dell LCD silver screen. As I put the bass under the right side of my 180 cm wide table, the cable of left speaker just long enough to connet to the Bass. Well, a wishfull thinking if next time Logitech can make the cables 10 to 15 cm longer. For the rest, it is perfect to me. With this great 2.1 set, I am buying more DVD movies now to enjoy the great entertainment sounds! If your budget is around or under $100, this is the best choice. If you use speakers mainly for movies and music and less on gaming, like I do, you even do not need to consdier entry-level 5.1 speakers, like X-5300. As the sound clarity of Z-4 is better than X-530, according to one PC shop that I visited.

  Bit of a disappointment...

  The good- upper and middle treble, upper mids and upper base. Clear reproduction.
  Missing- mid, lower mid and medium to low base.
  
  The result is a very flat sound. I have some 5 year old Audiomyth computer speakers that I was trying to replace as they're getting freyed at the edges and struggle with volume, but... for the moment all is forgiven. They were very cheap speakers and their depth is just so much better than these. The Z4s are going back to the shop, and hopefully I'll lose my wide eyed look of disbelief and some considerable disappointment.
